Obligations of the companies

The exhibition to fibres of asbestos in the positions of work can produce in a very different ways:

  • Prolonged or regular exhibitions: they are those which are given when works with asbestos of way are made deliberate (retreats, demolitions…) and that they must be carried out by companies registered in the RERA (company' record with risk of asbestos) with approved work schedules and with means and appropriate training, in agreement the Royal Decree 396/2006.
  • Non intentional exhibitions or accidental: they are the produced ones in an unforeseen way (plumbing, electricians…) or when works are made in ACM's proximities. It does not require the application of the Royal Decree 396/2006 in a complete way.
  • Unseen exhibitions: when in the workplaces there are materials with installed asbestos and these give off fibres that they can be breathed by the staff.

The company owes have identified and valued the ACM of its facilities in order to be able to assess the risk of exhibition of its staff and being able to manage of correct use the coordination of business activities (EAC), especially in interventions of maintenance, repairs or works. Business accredited offer services of inspection for the location and diagnosis of the ACM in accordance with the UNE standard 171-370-2.

The Ministry of Health Care has published "Guidelines for the dropped out of the installed"asbestos (June 2024) to provide the elaboration of a census of facilities and locations with asbestos of way attuned throughout the whole of Spain and to prioritise its retreat according to dangerousness and exhibition criteria to the town. These guidelines also can serve to help to the companies and its prevention services that owe identify the risk for exposure to asbestos in the risk assessments, in the location and identification of the ACM installed in its work centres.
