Digital radiology in all Mutua Universal's centres

Digital radiology can be considered the greatest technological advancement in image systems for medical use in the last decade. The images can be obtained, deleted, modified and sent via a computer network. In a few years we will see photographic film for X-rays fall completely into disuse. An appropriate and easy analogy in order to understand it is the replacement of the traditional photographic cameras for digital cameras.

The advantages contributed by digital radiology are huge. The medical staff can see in a screen of high resolution the image and even to issue a report few minutes after having carried out the exploration.

Images are no longer kept in one place. Thus different health professionals situated to kilometres of distance can see them simultaneously. In addition, the/the patient can run away with images of rays X in one herarmienta of digital storage to put them at the disposal of another medical staff or hospitals.

In Mutua Universal, we have digitised the x-ray equipment in all our centres

This comprises a major development in the reduction of the dose of radiation used in the tests, since the traditional plates are no longer used, which also benefits the elimination of X-ray waste material.

In comparison with conventional film imaging, digital radiology allows us to:

  • Eliminate chemical products and supplies and reduce levels of radiation.
  • Obtain a better quality of image thanks to digital filtering.
  • The high definition offers an exceptional contrast with 65,000 levels of grey, which allows doctors to carry out a more accurate diagnosis than with traditional systems.
  • Store and send information via digital media.
