Reduce the absenteeism

In Occupational Health, as in any other discipline, it is significant to clarify terms, all the more so when find published references that use identical terms as it is the case of the “presentismo” work to describe different behaviours.

In the same way that it happened with end the absenteeism, which emerged so many definitions, classifications or measuring systems such as points of view, interests or objectives expected the research; for years, the phenomenon of the presentismo has earned popularity and it has worried to the different agents social because of its high repercussion in economic costs terms, health and social.

However, seems that there is difficulty to distinguish this phenomenon of others that are described using the same end.

Even when there is enough consensus to use the use of the end presentismo to describe the presence in the position which is sick, or the behaviour which attends to work even when there is justification so that it is of cancellation.

The difficulty lies when confusing consequences of the presentismo as are: the decrease of the yield, the non-compliance, or the loss of productivity because of disability or illness, with another type of counterproductive behaviours at work, as the procrastination of tasks, the dejación of functions, delays or bad timekeeping, which being able to be asset in its position, is current but it does not comply with its responsibility. This last behaviour describes the Absenteeism In person, but is to that which adverts in general the bibliography the to use end the Presentismo. To this would be able to sum a third meaning that describes the trend to be been or remained at work beyond the time necessary to the effective performance and that it can drive to that employees give up to its holidays, prolong its meeting beyond the established schedule, for the pressure or need of keeping its employment in work instability moments, for example.

Between these three definitions, 1) to attend the work when sick person is been, 2) to attend without working or producing the necessary thing and/or to disconnect being healthy and 3) to attend and to remain beyond the necessary time; the first one describes the Presentismo Work, such as has been agreed on and as it proposes the European Foundation for the Improvement of the Living conditions and of Work [European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions (EUROFOUND)], when adverting to the “sensation of that one owes tender for the work, even if it is too sick person, stressed or inattentive to be productive” or “the incorporation to the employment even when they exist or they subsist objective criteria to remain of cancellation".
